Transfers are permitted between immediate family members only and must be deemed a gift.
The signatures on this form must be witnessed by someone other than the applicant, co-applicant, spouse or common-law partner of any of these persons or in Ontario the applicant's child or a person who treats the applicant as his or her child.

When is it used?

Designation of Beneficiary for RSP and RIF Account Assets

Designate or change a beneficiary for your Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) and Retirement Income Fund (RIF) account assets.

Designation of TFSA Successor Holder and/or Beneficiary

Complete this form to designate or change a successor holder and/or beneficiary of your Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) assets.

The designation is subject to the laws of the applicable jurisdiction (province or territory).

A successor holder must be your spouse or common-law partner, as defined by the Income Tax Act. That person will take over your account upon your death.

A beneficiary can be anyone, including your spouse or common-law partner. If the TFSA has only a beneficiary designated, the funds will be paid, upon your death, in cash to the beneficiary.

Designation of RIF Successor Holder and/or Beneficiary

Complete this form to designate or change a successor holder and/or beneficiary of your Retirement Income Fund (RIF) assets.

The designation is subject to the laws of the applicable jurisdiction (province or territory). This form is to be used for RIF accounts when:

  1. Adding a Successor Annuitant on the account
  2. Changing the existing Successor Annuitant on the account (in the event there's change of spouse/death of spouse)
  3. Adding a Beneficiary
  4. Changing the existing beneficiary

Paperwork to be completed by a guarantor of any liabilities on your TD Direct Investing accounts.

Important: Alberta Guarantees must be witnessed by a lawyer.

The completed form must be taken to a TD Canada Trust Branch or a TD Direct Investing location for a staff witness to sign.
